Are you fond of Prime 9 but just don't need all the bells and whistles? Are you ready to ditch your 3x drivetrain and looking to jump on the 1x bandwagon? Our Box Four tier is for those who just want less fuss. With the Box Four 8 Speed Drivetrain, 8 is enough, and indeed 11-42T is plenty of range for an 8-speed cassette. Our derailleur still has the Limited Slip clutch but now arrives with a more compact cage. The custom 8-speed chain is built for abuse, although it's sophisticated enough to have its own Wide/narrow chainring. Push through fewer gears with a no-nonsense shifter. This combo will transport you to 1 by territory for less than $200.

The Box Four chain employs an 8-speed platform similar to the Prime 9 but at an affordable price point. The chain is polished and then chemically treated to achieve corrosion resistance. The inner link spacing on the 8-speed chain is a little tighter than other chains and is optimized to use with our Box Four Wide/Narrow Chainring. The Box Four Wide/Narrow chainring is the first 8-speed specific chainring designed to optimize chain retention when using 8-speed chains. The tooth profile and thicknesses are tailored to match the inside geometry of the unique Box Four chain. The Box Four Wide/Narrow chainring completes that package for the 1x8 system.

Unlike other drivetrains, Box drivetrains offer simplicity, durability, and a high-performing system that allows you to slap on the drivetrain, then forget about it. You can enjoy the ride without hassle or constant maintenance after each ride. Is the Box Four 8 Speed Groupset right for you? More does not always mean better. 8 is Enough!

Testimonials:
I recently purchased a project bike for my family. It had a really decent 3x9 system installed, but lacked the needed range for climbing our local trails. So researched this kit and realized it had the same range as my last 1x11 I had in a high end mtb I rode. Installing was easy, kit is high quality, came with a new chain! Looks good, performs well, even on my janky hub still never missed a beat. Worth every penny! Great budget option into the 1x world. Fyi the clutch is so strong this old bike is now quiet and a breeze to pedal

The clutch action of the rear derailleur is fantastic. The force required to shift is much more than I'm used too - compared to shimano/sram. The engagement is strong and I am enjoying it much more then other brands. I definitely consider Box components an upgrade. I was going back and forth between 8 or 9 speed. I ended up going for the 8 speed setup. The range of gear ratios is plenty for any riding style in my opinion. I am very pleased. The quality of this groupset is very good and at this price point it is a no-brainer.

I recently ordered the Box 8 speed to replace a 3x8 drivetrain on a 10 year old XC bike. It was easy to install and shifts great. Seems to be good quality especially considering the price. The cassette provides plenty of range for me, using a 32 tooth chainring. It was in stock and shipped in a few days, despite all the shortages in the industry right now. Overall this seems to be a great drivetrain for under $200.
